How Not to Drown in a Glass of Water by Angie Cruz

4.5

4.5 stars. Specifically the audiobook version!! If I had read this (physical or ebook) I’m not sure I would have liked it as much. The audio narration (Rossmery Almonte) was phenomenal and adding so much character so a very one-sided story. And the extra sound effects really elevated it.

After losing her job, Cara Romero attends career counseling and pieces together her life story. I really loved this and felt like Cara was such a real character. This speaks to the impacts of generational trauma, importance of found family, and finding resiliency in yourself. So endearing and humorous at times, despite some of the heavier matter. The only reason this wasn’t 5 stars is I actually wish it was a little bit longer to explore more with her and her son.
