The House of My Mother by Shari Franke
4.0
emotional hopeful inspiring reflective fast-paced

I have to preface this by saying that I related a lot to Shari's experience with her mother. so may of the scenes between them reminded me of my own relationship with my own mother, and thus that might color this review.

Anyways, I read this as an audiobook and have to say that Shari's voice was very important to the narrative. As the reader, she managed to convey a lot of her feelings in her reading alone. I very much enjoyed the fact that this was very personal from her. We get to see a lot of her personal growth and her thought process as she dealt with the incredible changes in her family. I appreciated the fact that she highlights how she, herself, managed to fall for Jodi's BS for a while before realizing its harm. I think its commendable for Shari to recognize her sense of superiority in some instances and the hurt it caused.

I appreciate the care and effort taken to keep the young Franke's safe. I feel like perhaps those people who might gravitate to this book might do so to read more about the terrible things done to them, but I'm glad for the conscientiousness to their safety and privacy.
