The Wolf and His Witch, Book 1 in The Descendants series by K.E. Turner

Buckle up, girls – we’re back in the Langeais wolves universe! But unlike the original series, this book is set in modern times. Werewolves, witches, and a second chance at love — with twists and a story that had me glued to my ereader!

Annabelle and Gabriel met in Paris three years ago. Despite sharing some passionate time together, they weren’t exactly honest about who they were. They lied to each other not only about their surnames but also about what they were: she – a witch, and he – a werewolf.
What Gabriel did know, however, was that Annabelle was his true mate. Yet, when his pack urgently needed him, he left her—without a word of explanation—literally standing in the streets of Paris on Christmas Eve.

Now, nearly three years to the day, Gabriel Montagne travels to California on pack business in search of Bella Rodriguez – a witch from the United States who, according to an old journal, travelled back to the tenth century in 2024 to change the course of history and prevent the slaughter of thousands of witches. She remained in the past and mated with his ancestors, becoming his many-times-great-grandmother. Gabriel must ensure that Bella Rodriguez does, in fact, travel back in time and help prepare her for the dangers of the world she’s about to enter.

Standing in the office of the leader of the San Francisco Bayside Coven, Gabriel feels as if he’s been given a second chance when he comes face to face with the woman he left in Paris three years ago... until he hears her full name: Annabelle Jackson-Rodriguez – Bella Rodriguez! – and watches her agree to be sent back to the 10th century.

A second chance… or some twisted joke of fate?

If Bella Rodriguez doesn't travel back in time, Gabriel will never exist – he would never have been born. But how can he let Annabelle go? She is his one true mate...

Of course, there are other problems. Dark forces are at play – those who despise both the coven and werewolves: an evil, time-travelling witch and the Faucherians, followers of the tenth century’s Eveque Faucher, who have dedicated their lives to hunting and destroying supernatural beings.

Will Gabriel and Annabelle get their HEA? Will those working against them be stopped? You’ll have to read it to find out. ^^

It was a quick and enjoyable read – highly recommended!

I love this author’s writing style: her ability to create drama, weave in twists and turns, and then tie it all up so wonderfully. I must admit, she got me there for a moment when Annabelle’s full name was revealed – I was like, “Wait... what...? Why....? No, no, no…!”
[insert Sheldon “Why?!” meme here] hehehe

While this book can be read as a standalone, toward the end there are plenty of hints and mentions of exciting things to come in the next instalments. And if you’ve read the original series, you’ll appreciate the full, beautiful picture of the Langeais wolf pack universe. :)

I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

ARC provided by the author – and I’m so glad I got the chance to read it early! All opinions are my own.
