Looking Glass by Andrew Mayne

4.0

Theo Cray has become a bit of a rebel badass in the second boo in "The Naturalist" series. Even though it is clear to the reader that Theo did not kill his former student in the first book, the rest of the fictional world he's in seems unconvinced. He's been kicked out of his teaching position, has no research lab, it seems like barely any friends, but he's back to doing what he has become surprisingly good at -- finding serial killers. This time, Theo's prey is a bit different: he likes to kill small children and he may be being protected by some people in high positions of power. Shocking.

Theo is still sassy, which I appreciate, but what does kind of hit the downer snooze for me is that we see some of the same techniques from cops used in the first book. He's brought in for questioning (again/a lot) and none of law enforcement believes him. While I can go with this, at some point, people are going to have to start believing Theo just a bit or this cliche is going to get tired.

Fast paced -- yes, for the most part.
Fun to listen to on audio -- absolutely.
Questionable skinhead language in one scene -- yes, if you're shy of negative slurs about homosexuals, this scene is going to bother you because every other word is a slur for a bit.
Theo -- still cocky, but deservedly so.

Four stars for me and I'll be checking out the next book because I'm curious.
