To Have and to Hoax
by Martha Waters
Violet and James were the love match of their season with all the passion that goes along with it, but five years later they are barely speaking to each other. Still when Violet gets word that James has been thrown from his horse at their country estate, she rushes to be at his bedside only to discover that he’s back to riding again. Wanting to get him back, Violet decides to feign her own mysterious illness and make James sick with worry for once. Can their lies save their marriage? Or is their once great love match doomed forever?
Martha Waters regency rom com world has quickly become one of my favorites to visit. Violet and James and their respective friends (most of whom appear again in To Love and to Loathe) are funny, smart, and well rounded characters, and while lying doesn’t seem like the greatest way to save a relationship, the increasingly comedic antics they must resort to keep the lie afloat are great fun. Violet and James have outstanding chemistry and the bedroom scenes feel like extensions of their relationship and integral to the plot. I can’t wait to see where this group of friends go next!
