Finding Me
by Viola Davis
emotional
funny
hopeful
inspiring
reflective
medium-paced
Listened to the audiobook (recorded by Viola Davis herself) and I loved getting to hear more about her life and herself from her perspective; it’s so easy to develop an idea about a famous person from how they’re spoken about by everyone else, or how they seem in their roles, etc. and we often overlook the journey to their fame and the real life — not the just the gossipy bits everyone’s always frantically trying to eek out of them during interviews — and I think from this I’m walking away with a much more thorough and grounded idea of Viola Davis the person, not just Viola Davis the actress. And I really appreciated her thoughts on finding and being true to that person she’s become, and feel like I’ve learned about lot about how I should continue to do the same for myself; I also specifically appreciated her reflecting on the things that happen in life — the good and the bad. And how to live, learn from, and move on *with* them.
