I love Gary Janetti so much and wanted to like this book so much more than I did. I listened to it as an audiobook so I could hear his inflections. Some of the stories had funny lines and great details but they were also many times completely unfocused—like a meandering story about a European bike trip. The best moments are when he writes a letter to his younger self and his faux Oscar speech. These moments feel focused and hilarious but also with a point. The other stories feel sometimes like they’re striving to be David Sedaris but without the oddball sort of turns of events or the hyper specificity.
