The Kindness of Strangers by Katrina Kittle
5.0

This book is a must-read. It's utterly heartbreaking and depressing and the subject matter is really, really hard. Which makes it sound awfully unappealing, but no - it was amazingly good and there were definitely uplifting parts, and the sum total of the book was just lovely. It was so utterly REAL, so well-written... There were literally nights that I couldn't get to sleep because I kept thinking about the story, worrying about the characters... I would have to stop and remind myself that it wasn't real, they weren't real people. It just hit me that hard. Anyway, I highly, highly recommend this book, though be warned, again, that the subject is difficult and that sometimes you will get so horrified you'll want to throw the book at the wall, because how can such things be allowed to occur??? Then you just have to remind yourself that it's only a story and maybe go donate money to the foundation that Kittle talks about in her acknowledgments.
