First book of the month, and well, it didn’t start with a bang. I had high hopes for this book, but sadly it didn’t live up to the expectation I had hope. The narrative was fantastic and I could listen to him all the time. I was just a bit disappointed as this book just did not scare me. I didn’t get a shiver….nothing.

There was too much that I have no answers for, I mean Shane’s aunt and uncle are missing and the police think they were murdered by Shane and in his house, but yet one of the detectives stops investigating to just join him in his haunted house, and it’s not spoke of again. We have a few open-ended storylines here, so I am not sure if these are covered in the next books. To be honest, I am not sure if I will carry on the series. I did love Carl, who seemed a gentle soul, however, his malevolent behaviour at the beginning of the book just didn’t fit with the character we came to know during the story.

When we find out who is the pond, I feel like I missed something, something is scratching my brain about how I should be surprised by this but I think, due to the fact I was listening to this book I may / may not switch off, I missed the relevance – which is annoying me! But I know that the name of the girl in the pond, well we kinda knew it already so maybe I have missed something. Urgh

It wasn’t all bad, I was expecting more and wanted more. I wanted to be petrified but I got nothing. If I don't think of a book to scare me, it was enjoyable as we travelled with Shane on his journey to find his parents, who went missing some years ago.

I’m glad I gave this a go, I am just unsure if I will carry on the series.
