The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
5.0
startling, unsettling, and so very hopeless.
the prose is beautiful and repulsive, and the characters are… empty. shallow. ugly. all of them. there’s an undercurrent of grotesque, lurid darkness underneath all the glitter, and i find that… fascinating.
i feel like a lot of the thematic elements went over my head (but maybe that’s the point?) but i could just be too young to fully appreciate them.
a very well-written book, albeit one i probably won’t reread.
tw’s:
a few swears (nothing worse than g*dd*mn and b*tch). disturbing descriptions. oh, and like almost everyone is cheating on their spouses.
