I knew I was going to like this book, but I had no idea I was going to love it this much. There are a lot of important topics mentioned in this book, and in my opinion, all of them were treated with a lot of respect and a bit of humor to not make the story feel so heavy.
Ari, the female main character, suffered from diagnosed depression, and reading about her journey through it, was a bit hard at times, but very wholesome and an eye opener of what people with depression goes through. Of course, her journey, her symptoms, and how she deals with it is not like the norm, everyone deals with it differently and in their own way.
Another thing I liked was the LGBTQ+ rep. Ari's brother is gay, he is married, and he has twins. And honestly, even though he and his family are only secondary characters, I was so happy to read about a family like theirs. It is not often you find this type of rep in books.
One more thing I liked, was the fact that Russell, the male main character, was fat. Personally, nowadays there are a lot of books with female main characters of different body sizes, which I love. But this is the first book I read in which the male main character is not this lean, muscular guy, and I loved it. Even though romances tend to be targeted for a female audience, I think males that read this genre, deserve to feel represented in books too. And the way his insecurities sometimes were shown, it was so refreshing to read about guys being self conscious.
Anyway, as a whole, this book was so cute and funny at times. But it also had a lot of great lessons to learn from. I am so happy I finally read this book, but most importantly I'm so glad I read it when I was in the right mood for it.
Oh, it has a couple of sex scenes described here, but the smut certainly is not important in this book, so if you go into this story expecting lots of hot scenes, then you'll be disappointed.
