The Joke by Milan Kundera
5.0

Someone getting in trouble for telling a joke or for laughing at the wrong time was an idea I once had for a novel. I obviously had no idea that Milan Kundera had written a book with a very similar premise, and I lack the imagination necessary to come up with such a story.
Imagine my amazement when I read this book for the first time without knowing anything about it beforehand and learn that one of the greatest authors of all time and I once had the same notion.
Surreal!
I thoroughly enjoyed every chapter and element of this book.
While I was reading it, I kept wondering how The Unbearable Lightness of Being came to be his most well-known piece. This is it for me ! The joke is his magnum opus.
The chance that Milan Kundera will pass away before receiving the Nobel Prize he unquestionably deserves is growing increasingly likely as he ages, and I find this to be incredibly sad.
New favourite and very highly recommended .
