The Last Garden in England
by Julia Kelly
SO GOOD! I loved it! This is a multi-perspective book of several women in different time periods whose lives all involve the same garden in England. There’s Venitia, the original garden designer at the turn of the century, Stella, Diana, and Beth on the home front during World War II, and Emma who is restoring the garden in 2021. Each storyline was really good and I liked all the characters. There’s a little bit of romance, some history, some tragedy, and some life lessons learned. The garden sounded so lovely and it made me really want to go visit some gardens!
I did find it interesting that the author and publisher went ahead and had this book set in the early part of 2021 because there’s still a pandemic going on and it was strange that there was no mention of masks or anything else pandemic related. Not that I wanted there to be- I would have changed the year to 2019 or 2018 but that’s just me.
Content warning: a couple has a premarital affair (but there are no bedroom scenes) and a trigger warning for the loss of children
