Circe by Madeline Miller
4.0
Circe was a book that both met my expectations and slightly exceeded them. I’ve read Madeline Miller’s The Song of Achilles, one of my favorite books, and I wasn’t sure if this book could surpass it. While it does not, that’s a testament to how good Miller’s writing is, she made me love both of her books in their own way and I’ve rarely met an author that can do that. I’ve loved mythology since I was a kid, and I’m actually a hellenic polytheist, so I worship the Greek gods. This book actually took points from my religion, and that amazed me, for most modern mythology books look over the actual cultus from tradition. The characters are intriguing and Circe’s growth in the book is beautiful. I would highly recommend this book. I would have given it 5 stars, but I did find some parts to drag on for a bit, but it’s easily overlooked so I would say I give it a 4.5 (but goodreads doesn’t let me do .5s)
