Sciona has lived her whole life working to become the first ever female mage. Women are allowed to try out every 10 years, but never succeed. When Sciona achieves the impossible she is set to do what it takes to be successful.
When Sciona arrives her male peers do not take her serious. They don't want to work with her and don't believe she earned her place. She is assigned the janitor as her assistant. The janitor is from outside the dome and his people are slaves to the Tiranish people. Sciona is definitely slow to understand that the help are as smart as Tiranish people and do understand that they're being treated poorly.
When Sciona realizes the source of the magic she is horrified and vows to make changes to the world she lives in. How far is she willing to go for the good of mankind versus the good of the Tiranish people.
