The Women by Kristin Hannah

5.0

Wow just wow. How am I even supposed to write down how this book made me feel? I cried several times throughout this book. There are some scenes (some happy, some sad) that I know will stick with me for the rest of my life. Frankie, Ethel & Barb and the women they represent deserve the world. The things they saw and endured in Vietnam and the absolutely horrendous treatment they received afterwards ripped my heart out. The Women follows Frankie, a young woman who enlists in the Army and works as a combat nurse in the Vietnam War. Of course her conservative parents protest but Frankie wants to follow in her brother’s footsteps. She’s determined to make a difference. And she does! As the reader we get a vividly detailed reconstruction of the unknown aspects of the Vietnam War. Honestly those portions were my favorite. It’s another powerful book that not only taught me about a time period, it made me feel it. Kristin Hannah somehow manages to make me feel like I have experienced an entire life, full of rich experiences with everything explored, yet I still wanted to continue reading more.
