Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica

4.0

3.5 out of 5 (4 for the ending)

INTERESTING. once you get ur imagination going this book is hard to swallow, at first intrigued seeing the intricacies and technicalities of this horrific setting, but at points it just felt a bit silly. do things REALLY have to be this way. ofc the virus is a lie, maybe cannabilism would be the next step to dealing w overpopulation but would almost all of the workd really succumb itself to eating ppl over idk a vegan diet? HSJJS but thats beside the point. i really enjoyed the ending because in the end, marcos who holds himself w his SADNESS and GRIEF above it all turns into everyone else. when that first plot point happened (impregnating jasmine) its like “what the hell, ok i know shes not an animal but in this world where she is human but is completely seperate from that concept, its already sickening to see him contemplate that on someone essentially defenseless and unknowing. and then having this little domestic scenes but you still get the sense that this is just all screwed up but not as much as the other characters marcos comes across (from marcos perspective) until the end where hmmm yes it is all the same perhaps. for the most part, I liked this book - maybe you cant help but be a part of the crowd in the protagonists case. perhaps i completely missed smth. would i recommend? hmmmm sure try it
