The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery
5.0

book #30 of 2025!! and the fact that it was 5 ⭐️ too!!
i enjoyed this so much! it was funny but not in a dramatic way. just lots of irony. i felt myself giggling at renèe and paloma’s matter of fact way of speaking.

it’s crazy how this book explored so many things—like beauty, intelligence, life—it’s hard to put everything into words. it really teaches you that you should never dim your light—whether it’s your personality, or hobbies, or intellect—regardless of who is around you. if people want to put you in a box, smash the box. be yourself unapologetically. and if people reject you, oh well. that’s the main thing that i took away from this.

so surprised by this—the characters, the plot, the writing style—UGH. my heart is literally aching right now.

if you loved “the idiot” by elif batuman, fredrik backman, or leo tolstoy, you will LOVE this!!
