House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

3.0

I love SJMs other series. ACOTAR is the stable older sister of the series. Sweet, sexy, cool. A take on fairy tales we know and love and some we didn’t know.

TOG series is the less promiscuous little sister, coming if age, slow burn love story. Lots of action and a lot of learning to trust.

This series, the crazy drunk aunt who your mom doesn’t really want to leave you with but there is no other baby sitter options. No one knows what’s going on. Everyone is shallow, on drugs, chaotic, and shady.

I did not like the main character, the love story felt shallow/under-developed and I didn’t feel drawn to them.

Overall I think this was fun and will speak to a lot of SJM fans, especially younger ones. I know SJM was having fun with this and it was meant to be more chaotic and reality tv like. It was! But I am joy a city girl and i don’t love modern romance. It threw me off that there were cell phones, especially after reading the other series.

I still love SJM, I just was not the target audience for this particular series. Still a fun read but not sure if i will continue. I am part way through the second book.
