This absolutely blew me away.  Like a hundred pages in, and I was already crying my eyes out.  The plot had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, and I just could not get enough.  The main character and her journey were just absolutely amazing to watch.  The world-building truly took me to another world, and I never wanted to put this book down.

This plot was so much fun.  I think the second half was a little fast-paced, but I’m okay with that.  The plot twist at the end had me screaming, and I just can’t believe I didn’t see it coming.  Each scene felt like it had a purpose, and I loved seeing details pop up again later in the story.

The romance was a love triangle, and most times, I am not a fan of them.  But for some reason, this one did it for me.  Maybe because each relationship was able to develop naturally and over the course of the book.  Or maybe it was because I couldn’t help but fall for morally grey men.  I do think that all the main characters could have benefited from multiple perspectives.  I just wanted to get a better understanding of the two male love interests.

The character growth of Xingyin was just incredible.  I feel like she feels like a little girl in the first few chapters, but by the end, she is a young adult.  I loved that even though she had feelings for both guys, she never let it get in the way of her dreams and goals.  She could always stand on her own two feet without sounding like a pick-me girl.

The world-building was a lot of fun to read, and I can’t wait to see how it expands in the next book.
