The Outsider by Stephen King
3.75
One of the, if not the best, 2010s King book I've read so far. Solid plot, solid characters, well-paced tension. Seeing Holly Gibney really take charge and strut her shit was so rewarding. I liked Ralph, his wife and Pelle. I liked the way it was plotted- slow at first, confusing and swirling with unanswered questions. There's a lull where the reader has no idea what will happen- I've read enough King to know sometimes he writes urban fantasy and sometimes he doesn't, didn't know what to expect- and when things finally pick up again, it races to the finish line. Barely any weird, unnecessary bigoted shit too. A solid, well-crafted book that has a place among my favorite Kings. Definitely better than guff like Doctor Sleep which was written only a few years before. Just goes to show how varied his output is.
