The Hot Zone by Richard Preston
5.0

This book is definitely worth reading. There are some extremely gruesome chapters (the first chapter is the hardest by a long shot), but it is important to know that deadly viruses have been so close to us and kept under wraps.
Reston, Virginia, 5-10 minutes from where I live, was where an outbreak occurred in the U.S. from Africa, that is terrifying. And knowing that he virus isn't "dead," but is only hiding, and capable of mutating in ways we cannot predict, is even more terrfying. A virus of this magnitude could originiate in Africa and be in London, Washington, Berlin, and major world cities within days.
The last chapter has some interesting reflections on viruses being natures way of getting rid of a parasite - the human. Perhaps the earth wasn't meant to have so many people, and a deadly virus is natures way of making it right...
