The Wedding People by Alison Espach

3.0

When I started reading this book, I remember thinking it dragged quite a bit and the paragraphs were too long, so I skimmed them somewhat. I prefer a good mix of dialogue and narration, so the heavy narration and less dialogue in the early chapters made me lose focus here and there.
But once the story really kicked off, I was intrigued. The writing was deep and reflective, and the characters were so diverse and flawed. Phoebe was definitely a character that had gone through some difficult times.
There were times I didn’t feel comfortable with the direction the plot was taking. It felt a lot like emotional cheating to me, and many of the characters weren’t very likable. However, I pushed through as much as I could, and in spite of my reservations, I’m glad I gave this book a try.

TW: suicide attempt, references to an unfaithful former spouse, infertility, miscarriage, death of a pet
