The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath by Sylvia Plath
Did not finish book.
I tried a hundred times and just couldn't. Plath's already overly oblique writing style combined with the apparently random assembly of the pages leaves us with largely undated work, no sense of how much time has passed, where she's writing from, or of whom she is speaking. Characters are labeled by first name, if at all, and the rest of their identities are buried in the notes at the end--marked in the Kindle version with unclickable " symbols rather than anything that could be useful for finding the notation if one did want to skip to the end and back twice on every page.
Maybe it works in print, I don't know. A third of the way in, I no longer care enough to find out.
