Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women That a Movement Forgot by Mikki Kendall

5.0

This is one of those books I know I'll have to read over and over. I feel that Mikki's writing in this book has unique value among feminist texts in that it is almost exclusively an application based discussion. Where most books on feminist theory leave you with more to think and understand about the world, Mikki leaves you with things to DO.

She does take time to help the reader understand the intricacies of each topic, she does less hand holding, expecting her readers to have a basic knowledge of feminist topics and the world.

I really value her frankness as well. I appreciate people who don't waste time putting things nicely when I come to them to learn the hard truths. I'm excited to buy this book and reread it over and over again until it feels like an old friend.

Audiobook: I listened to this book and I really appriciated that the book was read by the author. Nonfiction books always carry more power when read by the author. There were a few times that I could tell she had started a new recording session because the volume and timbre of her voice changed suddenly, which was a bit distracting.
