The rape scene in the very beginning was, in my opinion, very much unnecessary, but at least it was handled pretty well afterwards. I found the whole book giving these good old hurt/comfort fanfiction vibes (in the best way!)
Also glad to see how Vel and Cae were mostly acting pretty mature and that they were talking to each other about their issues rather than jumping to conclusions!
