Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, and Know by Alexandra Horowitz
5.0
If you are a dog owner, you must read this book. It is a completely fascinating journey into the canine mind, and it will change the way you interact with your pet and your perception of what dogs think and feel in a huge way. Going into it, I was a little afraid that if I found out the real reason why my dog acted in certain ways, it would ruin our relationship - we tend to anthropomorphize our pets and to assign human thoughts and emotions to their actions, which is a big part of why we love them so much. But, when you find out the real motivation behind your dog's behaviors, not only will it help you interact with him more effectively, but it will make you love him all the more (if that's even possible). The book is written in an entertaining, easy to read style, but it does occasionally veer into the technical and scientific. Don't let that scare you off, though, because the payoff is well worth it. Highly recommended.
