Of Women and Salt by Gabriela Garcia

This is an amazing book that I actually finished in just a day. Each chapter follows a different family member (with some being revisited in later chapters). The story begins in Cuba in the late 1800s and follows generations as they immigrate/try to make their way in the United States. There is generational family trauma, substance abuse, and exploration of the complexities of motherhood, and so much more at play here. The ending is unexpected and devastating but in a way that feels like it was exactly where the story was supposed to land. It’s honest and tragic and a necessary read.
