Scythe by Neal Shusterman

adventurous challenging dark hopeful mysterious reflective tense medium-paced

5.0

Scythe was just the dystopian story I needed right now. Amazing, rich and smart world building. Incredible characters and plot with shocking events that kept me glued to the page!

I liked the idea of Scythes taking on different names when ordained. Scythe Marie Curie, the Grand Dame of Death, along with Scythe Faraday, were some of my favorite side characters. Our two main characters, Citra and Rowan, each had fantastic character arcs, their growth into Scythes, with Faraday’s original influence, was gratifying until the end.

The Thunderhead AI technology and the advancements of the human race were very intriguing. Additionally, the Scythedom organization and training process had a little bit of that Hunger Games vibe and I think that’s just the tip of the iceberg! I’m dying to read on for the rest of the series to see what else will come.
