Blood on Her Tongue
by Johanna van Veen
dark
emotional
tense
van Veen is excellent at Gothic horror. This book is so atmospheric and creepy. I didn’t like that it tells you what’s actually behind Sarah’s supernatural resurrection instead of just leaving it kind of ambiguous. Like, it’s pretty clear she’s not just crazy but there is actually something physical happening. Otherwise she would not recover when she’s given the blood. Knowing the how and why of the horror so clearly makes it less intimidating. Still, found it chilling and disgusting and tense, which is what you want in a horror novel. I pretty much listened non-stop.
