Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami

This is not a sexy, hip book, not really. It's a sad book. Extremely sad, steeped in adolescent hurt and loss. There is so much loss in these pages, detailed beautifully. Japan in 1969-70 feels real, but you wouldn't want to live there. It's a place with student uprisings, fascism, and the casualties are the young people who just can't find a place to fit in. Through time it resonates with us. I've felt like I'm nowhere, like I'm calling from a place that isn't a place, too many times. Basically, wow, I understand why this book has stood out among his many excellent works for so many people.
