The Isle of Sin and Shadows by Keri Lake

4.0

The Isle of Sin and Shadows is my third Keri Lake book, and I can say, without a doubt, she’s become one of my favorite authors. In her books, including this one, you can tell how much passion and dedication she puts into developing compelling and unique stories.

One of the things I love about Keri’s writing is the world-building. It’s effortless getting lost in the setting, and I always wish Keri would write more stories set in those places. The Isle of Sin and Shadows is set on a fictitious island off the coast of Louisiana where residents speak a fictional language. Keri provides background information for the history of the island's name and includes a glossary in the book, making the story feel all the more compelling.

(I especially loved this one since I’m a big fan of the New Orleans atmosphere, and this just prompted me to plan a vacation there soon.)

The story itself is fantastic! It has ghost stories, a cult, Lousiana marshes, and a slow-burn romance. I would say the mystery/thriller aspect of the story sits at the forefront, so don’t go into this one expecting pure romance. Seeing all the puzzle pieces fall into place at the end was satisfying and made me love Keri’s stories even more.

If you know me and my reading habits, you’ll know I listen to playlists while reading books. Well, Keri has a Spotify playlist for The Isle of Sin and Shadows, and wow! The entire playlist encapsulates the book perfectly, and I found some new favorite songs!

My next Keri Lake read will most likely be the Nightshade series, and I’m beyond excited to start it!
