Really interesting - deep reflection on self, literature, race, coming of age.
I like the “book about writing a book” trope, so it appealed, and worked for this book’s message.
At times the narrator’s voice did not match their actions, but unclear if this was unreliable narrator or sloppy. Occasionally verged on telling me the point rather than showing it.
Overall appropriate pacing for the story, though a sudden and somewhat jarring shift at the end (post the event, when her attitude shifts).
