Boyfriend Goals by Riley Hart

5.0

Boyfriend Goals is one of the most endearing books I’ve read in a long, long time. I wanted Milo and Gideon to be real people so that I could meet them and give them both a huge hug (with Milo’s express permission, of course).

Milo Copeland is a treat. He’s neurodivergent so many people may call him strange or different but he’s unique with his own personality and boundaries. After getting a call from a lawyer, he learns he’s inherited a building and bookstore on Little Beach Island from his biological grandmother and immediately packs up and moves, determined to see if this is his new path in life. I LOVED that Milo was so communicative about his boundaries and limits but also so honest with everyone around him. Milo is completely endearing in a way I never expected but couldn’t get enough of!

Gideon Barlow is a tattoo artist on Little Beach Island, in a shop that he rents from Milo. He’s been struggling with feeling stagnant as his brother and best friend’s lives are moving on and their families are expanding. But Gideon is the sweetest guy - helping Milo’s grandmother and Gene before she passed, welcoming Milo to town and helping him get acquainted and spending tons of time with his family. Even though he looks tough on the exterior with his tattoos and piercings, he’s warm, welcoming, understanding and open to new things.

From the very first time they met outside the bookstore, you can tell that there’s something that draws Milo and Gideon together. Gideon was so open and non judgemental from the very beginning, putting Milo at ease and creating a bond between them. Their progression from not quite friends to bestie goals to boyfriend goals is adorable, wonderful, natural and special. Milo and Gideon had tons of chemistry and their open dialogue about every new step their relationship took was refreshing. Even when things don’t go exactly as planned when Gideon is trying to protect Milo or Milo is trying to work through his feelings, they still figure out a way to work through it and be better. I loved seeing their relationship grow and turn into something unexpected and real.

Once I started, I honestly couldn’t put this book down - Milo and Gideon were so much fun to read. If you’re looking for a unique, entertaining romance story, definitely consider picking up Boyfriend Goals!
