Be aware that this book immediately starts with the main character finding out her best friend has attempted and is hospitalized.

It explores the journey of young adulthood and the transition into viewing oneself as a whole independent unit separate from friends and other loved ones.

While the art was beautiful and brought the story to life, the magical realism elements that suddenly developed felt unexplained and not processed or addressed. I would have liked to see more depth and exploration of emotion and confusion as her ceramic creations came to life. Without that the magical elements felt almost insignficant, especially given how the book had started and how intensely we had seen her react.
