To Shape a Dragon's Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose
Did not finish book. Stopped at 28%.
It took too long to set up. Or actually no, it took a regular amount of time but that felt like forever because I could not connect with the writing and I didn’t feel like I want to root for the protagonist. In fact, I had no feelings for her at all, at this point I still didn’t feel invested in her journey or her potential growth and relationships. I did like how indigenous communities was included and the way they were treated is true to life. The author writing from such a perspective helps us empathise with IRL communities. But this character just felt flat, I didn’t feel anything for her at all. And because of how emotionally flat the character felt to me, I couldn’t get through the rather detailed writing. At the end I am left wondering why am I still reading this book when every moment feels like a drag because I am just waiting for something exciting to happen.
