Ugh. I mean. It was okay. I kept reading, mostly because I was fascinated by how fucked up this all was. Also because there is some trickery going on here, where you read Joe's stalker/serial killer rants and ...kind of sympathize? And get where he's coming from? And want Beck to "love" him back?

It's weird. The narrator had an unsettling way of seeming kind of sexy and adorable even while describing murder and stalking and manipulation. It honestly seemed like these things went together, which says a lot about contemporary notions of romance, particularly in the utterly fucked west.
