The Shadow of Kyoshi
by F.C. Yee
I really liked that this one included learning about more past Avatars beyond Kyoshi, as well as the look at the Fire Nation pre-Sozin. Zoryu's character was particularly interesting, and I also liked Atuat a lot. She was great. I missed the Flying Opera Company, and wish they could have been involved in the plot of this more, though I understand why they wouldn't have fit. I really hope this isn't the end of F. C. Yee's novels in the Avatar world. I'd love to see his take on some other aspects of the world, maybe other Avatars who haven't been named yet, or even just non-Avatar characters doing cool shit. Like I'd totally love to see a heist novel about the Flying Opera Company in its prime, or (my perennial request for Avatar) something about Iroh's journey into the spirit world that's mentioned once in a single episode of the series and never addressed again. Anything, really. I just want more.
