Saint X
by Alexis Schaitkin
This book is the story we all have heard. White family goes to resort and the daughter goes missing. And then there is an investigation, etc. But this book is about how our lives intertwine. It is about simple things like why we go on vacation and how islanders watch the white families come and go without a thought to the locals. It is about complicated things. Economic survival, how all of our plans can fail us in one minute, how loss defines us and sometimes we need that definition.
It is the story of all of the lives that are affected by one event - big or small. And how if we don’t deal with those things we will run into them eventually and they may ruin us.
There is an elegance to this writing that was beautiful and the story was so much more than I had anticipated. I am so looking forward to this writer’s next book.
