The Sea King by C.L. Wilson

I enjoyed certain aspects of this book but some parts of it REALLY bothered me. I feel like ht author tries to make her female characters "strong" but then the male characters are constantly degrading them to sexual objects or treating them like children and it's maddening. The whole "i'm going to punish you for lying" or "i'll bend you over my knee and spank you" is eye-rolling. If a man ever said some shit like that to me I'd never speak to him again. This is a grown woman and he's speaking to her like she's a child.
And listen, I get that the author wanted to add some SA to what idk grow the FMC's character or something but it literally was so unrealistic how she dealt with that trauma. After being assaulted for literal DAYS on end she bounces back basically immediately and goes to having sex with the MMC with no side effects?? The only time it affects her is when other people touch her? BS. I would have found the book and characters more compelling if the MC's actually had to work through that trauma together with him not being able to touch her. THAT would have made more sense honestly
