This novel has a good premise...a body discovered that is composed of appendages from multiple victims and the taunting of a troubled, stumbling detective...but it fails to deliver a true crime thriller impact. There are too many characters to really form any attachments, and while the misdirection is complex, perhaps it is too much so. I found myself skimming because I knew it wasn't relevant.
"...there are no 'good' people. There are just those who haven't been pushed far enough yet, and those that have."
