The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule

5.0

The thing that makes Ann Rule such an exceptional crime writer is that she doesn't bullshit her audience. Even though this is categorized as an autobiographical book, and it is to an extent, she stays on task. This book is about Ted Bundy and the crimes he committed. Despite the sympathy and tenderness she shows in her portrayal of Bundy, she always prioritizes the victim and never excuses his actions. She admits when she is wrong and makes a genuine commitment to tell the truth. A lot of the fan fair around this book makes it seem as if this is a true story thriller. Its not, it's an exploration of what the people around us, the people we think we know, may be capable of. A must read for all true crime consumers.
