Commute: An Illustrated Memoir of Female Shame by Erin Williams

3.0

This book made me uncomfortable. It's relatable of course. Most women will or have experienced some form of sexual assault and I'm no exception to that, but everything to the way this book is drawn to the bluntness of it's writing puts me into a place of fear I try to ignore in my life. It's a stream of consciousness narrative laid bare and it's powerful certainly, but it made me the sort of uncomfortable where I'm happy I read it, but probably won't re-read it. At least not for a long time. I don't like to see the world for it's dark places, but it's important that we recognize them.
