It's the first time I read a Sci-Fi book set in the past. Seeing how a society pre-internet deals with an alien invasion was quite interesting. It really made me think about how far we have came in terms of technology and globalization and if we, today, would survive an invasion like that.
And I do have to give this book a few points for not forgetting that the main character would definitely have PTSD from everything he went throw, like so many modern sci-fi and fantasy storys do.
However, most of the story is this style of writing I don't really like. is just: "this happened and then this happened and then that happened", over and over again. There is almost no time to breath and the description of things and people are very surface level.
Also, there was this anoying thing were the author just drops names of random parts of England with no further explanation or description of the place. Like, in sorry sir, but not everyone who reads this book has the map of all the streets of London memorised.
