Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason
5.0

I waffled between a 4- and 5-star review for this book, so let's call it a 4.5. For me, it started a little slowly, because I had trouble getting the narrator's voice. I'm not sure if it's because it was so different in tone from the book I'd just completed, or if it was because I couldn't tell at first if the book was supposed to be funny or sad.

It's both a hilarious and sad novel told in the first person from the POV of a narrator who has suffered from depression off and on her most of her life. The novel flashes between points in time, developing both her relationships and her illness, and how those things affect each other.

While it took me a little bit to pick up the tone of the novel, once I did, I couldn't put it down. I stayed up way too late on a school night to finish the second half of this book. It was very different from anything else I've read. Definitely recommend.

FWIW, I think the plot summary on Goodreads (I don't know if it's the same as on the dust jacket and elsewhere) does not do it justice at all.
