Hawke by Jescie Hall
3.0
The writing was solid, and I’d definitely read more from Jescie Hall in the future. She has an engaging style and knows how to keep the story moving. Hawke himself was a great character, and I genuinely rooted for him — but I would have rooted for him even more if the FMC hadn’t been cheating. Yes, her boyfriend was a major jerk, but for me, that still doesn’t make infidelity okay. I’m all for a forbidden romance when it’s forbidden for reasons like family rivalry, social standing, or other external conflicts, but not when the “forbidden” part is simply because the main character is already in a relationship. It pulled me out of the story and kept me from fully enjoying the romance. Sorry, but in my book, there’s no real excuse for cheating.
