The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo

June Book Club- something from your TBR

From the beginning/prologue, I knew this was going to make me cry. I knew something bad had happened, but I still had hope that it would all be ok in the end. It wasn’t - the main characters didn’t get their happily ever after - but I’m ok with it. I could relate to a lot of the story bc I was close to their age when 9/11 happened and remember feeling similar things, although I didn’t live in NY. I really liked the main characters, loved their story, and wanted something different for them than what came to be. Sigh. I’m sad, but will be ok. And I didn’t realize there was a sequel, so I’m really looking forward to that!!

This one didn’t get 5 stars bc there were parts of the story that I absolutely could not believe she told Gabe (i.e. the first time she slept with Darren!!!) Those parts made it all seem less realistic, but I was happy to have the information, lol. I think it may have worked better as journal entries instead of a bedside confession/story time.
