Meet Me in Another Life by Catriona Silvey
5.0
Thora and Santi meet at a university far from home and there is instantly a connection, when suddenly, one of them unexpectedly dies. But their story hasn't ended yet: the two find each other again, this time as teacher and student, and their story restarts. This repeats seemingly endlessly, and the two struggle with finding meaning and purpose in their existence, only to discover a shocking truth.
I've read books that twist and contort time, but I've never read a book like this before. There are so many ways that this book could have gone wrong – the lifetimes could have felt repetitive, the age differences could have felt upsetting, the conclusion could have been unsurprising – but somehow, the mystical wizard that is Catriona Silvey deftly lept over each pitfall.
Breathtaking world-building and masterful character depth helped me imagine every scene with immaculate detail, and it felt more like I was omnisciently experiencing it rather than merely reading it. This is sci-fi for both fans and foes of the genre, and it truly speaks to the importance of connection and curiosity.
This is not a story to be devoured but rather savored, every sentence bursting with depth and elegance. Meet Me in Another Life is a book I know I'll be recommending to everyone I know, and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to read it early.
