Still Me by Jojo Moyes

4.0

3.5 stars rounded up because bits of it made me laugh.

The first book in this series, Me Before You, had raw emotion simmering in the background until the boiling point at the end. The rawness was married with hopefulness, humor and beautiful humanity. It was thought provoking and Louisa was impressively relatable.

The second book, After You, was rather bleak and despairing. Lousia warmth and charm wasn’t portrayed all that well. I get that she was going through some stuff and she had subsequently changed as a character, but that doesn’t change the fact that I, as a reader, didn’t connect with her. In my humble opinion, the second book just didn’t bridge all that well with the first book.

I was much better able to connect with Louisa in the third book, but Still Me lacked the rawness of the first book. The book was an average self discovery drama/rom com. It didn’t even come close to giving me the emotional response the first book did. Though I wasn’t as disconnected as I was with the second book, I certainly wouldn’t say this was an outstanding book either. It was fine, maybe even good, but it just couldn’t live up to Me Before You. And, speaking of living up to things, can I just say, none of the love interests were anything compared to Will’s smart arse, moody, thoughtful, and hilarious character. All other men seemed one dimensional compared to Will! Tough act to follow as the originals are almost always the best - both the men and the books.
