Woke Up Like This
by Amy Lea
This book was adorable! It gives all the 13 Going on 30 and Never Have I Ever vibes in the best way. Did it get a little angsty toward the end? Absolutely. But I will allow it since the last days of high school are peak angst time IRL.
Charlotte has big plans for her final days of high school. Everything should come together perfectly as long as her nemesis, J.T. Renner doesn't ruin it. When she falls off a ladder and crashes into him, they both wake up as 30 year olds who are engaged! Can they figure out what happened, how to get back to the past, and will they end up falling in love on the way?
Woke Up Like This was so cute. It was such a fun read that perfectly captured the essence of the over achieving high school senior. Charlotte was a bit high strung, but just wants everything to go perfectly how she's always imagined. I can definitely remember that feeling. I loved the side story lines of Charlotte's family and friend relationships. They made the book feel well rounded. Renner was adorable, especially in the future. Their banter was so fun and swoony. If I had one negative, it would be that the 3rd act drug on a bit. It was miscommunication after miscommunication, when they had been doing so well. It didn't bother me as much it normally would though because teens do have trouble expressing their emotions so it felt real.
Mindy's Book Studio is 2/2 for me so far. I will definitely continue to check out the books she chooses.
